Kanye Made Honorary Member Of The Squad After Antisemitic Comments

After unleashing another barrage of antisemitic comments, Ye has been named an honorary member of "The Squad".

"Ye has that perfect combination of unhinged lunacy and Jew-hatred that we are looking for," said Representative Ilhan Omar. "We can't wait to welcome him to one of our 'Schindler's List' watch parties!"

Ye stated that he was tripping on psychiatric medications when he made the first round of antisemitic remarks but has since clarified that he just really hates Jews. "I do want to make it absolutely clear that those medications played no role whatsoever in expressing my disdain for Jewish people," said Ye. "I would further like to apologize to anyone who may have gotten the wrong impression about my deep-seated contempt for those greedy Zionists. It is one hundred percent real, and puts amateurs like Mel Gibson to shame."

After hearing the news, "Squad" members Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez immediately lobbied for Ye's inclusion into their group. "It's so refreshing to have a cultural icon like Ye share our vision of pushing Israel into the sea," said Omar. "We've fostered a lot of violence against Jewish people in my New York district, but we need people like Ye to really take that violence mainstream. I even made us all matching 'Non-Jew Lives Matter' shirts as a welcome gift!"

At publishing time, Ye had announced that any Jew who joins his social media app Parler will be identified by a little gold verification badge.

There's a Public School Child Sexual Abuse Epidemic No One Is Talking About by Matt Margolis

Did you think Drag Queen Story Hours, transgender closets, and porn in school libraries were where the sexual grooming of kids ended in the public school system? Guess again. There is a widespread epidemic that has not gotten enough attention, and that’s the shocking number of public educators who have been arrested for child sex-related crimes this year.

Nearly 270 public educators have been arrested for child sex-related crimes in the first nine months of the year. These crimes have been against students of all ages, including anything from simple grooming to statutory rape.

According to Fox News Digital, one public school educator has been arrested every day this year. This includes four principals, two assistant principals, 226 teachers, 20 TAs, and 17 substitute teachers. The majority of the arrests (75%) were for alleged crimes committed against students. Roughly 80% of those detained were men.

As disturbing as this is, the number of children whom public school officials and teachers have victimized is likely much higher, as the above numbers only represent those where an arrest has been made.

“The number of teachers arrested for child sex abuse is just the tip of the iceberg — much as it was for the Catholic Church prior to widespread exposure and investigation in the early 2000s,” Christopher Rufo, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, told Fox News Digital. “The best available academic research, published by the Department of Education, suggests that nearly 10% of public school students suffer from physical abuse between kindergarten and twelfth grade.”

“According to that research, the scale of sexual abuse in the public schools is nearly 100 times greater than that of the Catholic Church,” Rufo added. “The question for critics who seek to downplay the extent of public-school sexual abuse is this: How many arrests need to happen before you consider it a problem? How many children need to be sexually abused by teachers before you consider it a crisis?”

The FBI’s Tac Vest Fascism by Dan Gelernter

I had heard about the FBI showing up in full regalia to arrest Paul Vaughn, father of 11, for a pro-life protest he’d been part of the previous year. Unlike the 2020 BLM peaceful protesters, Vaughn didn’t set anything on fire or kill anybody. But he had sat in the hallway of an abortion clinic singing hymns. The FBI swarmed his house wearing bulletproof vests and carrying AR-15s. They pointed guns at the door and banged on the house. Ultimately, they took the father away while ignoring his wife’s questions, including that an agent identify himself. At one point in the video, you can see this agent simply walks past her, waits sheepishly for the FBI driver to unlock the SUV’s door, and gets in and slams the door in the woman’s face. I recommend you find and watch a video of this for yourself, because there is no substitute for seeing it.

We only know this happened because the wife had the presence of mind to film it with her cell phone. But what if this is happening all over the country to people who aren’t lucky enough to have friends or family nearby with cameras? What if there are hundreds of Paul Vaughns being carted away by federal agents for crimes of civil disobedience?

Fascim has always needed a uniform, and the current one is windbreakers and tactical vests with big, government-agency letters blocked out in yellow. These bulletproof vests are not being worn for the agents’ safety: None of these agents actually worries about getting shot trying to arrest middle-aged family men. If they were worried about being shot, they’d come in tanks or send drones or just wait outside like the Uvalde police.

In reality, the FBI’s and ATF’s vests are like the KGB’s blue-tabbed uniforms or the brown shirts of Hitler’s SA, and are worn for the same reason: They represent the intimidation of unlimited government power against the ordinary citizen. It is the power of the faceless, nameless—they never give their names—and unaccountable bureaucracy. It is the uniform of evil’s enforcement wing. The FBI have become what Hilter’s SA once were: Sturm Arbteiling, storm detachments, storm troops, whose purpose is to achieve obedience through fear.

“We’re from the government, and we’re here to hurt.”

Americans have always hated the sight. Which is why it is illegal for the military to be deployed domestically: Do you imagine the inspiration for the Posse Comitatus Act had anything to do with whether the people roaming around your property and pointing guns at you were officially in the army? If they look like soldiers, dress like soldiers, seem to think they are soldiers, does it matter that they’re officially from some other part of the government? It is explicitly illegal that the military be used as a police force.

We do not tolerate, and have never tolerated, armies walking through our homes—not, at least, without firing back. Look at our Revolutionary War monuments: There is a reason the militiamen in our statues are dressed like farmers, not soldiers.

It should be illegal for the government to come to your house looking like an occupying military force under siege. And if they feel themselves actually to be under siege, perhaps they’re doing something wrong. Certainly, a Washington, D.C. surrounded with fences and barbed wire does not scream “government of the people!” It looks more like a bunch of pirates occupying spaces to which they have no right, and to which they know they have no right.

Tac vests, ballistic helmets, and for that matter “weapons of war” like AR-15s, have no place in the hands of federal agents. Their possession transforms these people into the domestic military presence from which we are protected by law. FBI agents should walk around wearing suits, floppy pink hats that say “FED!”, and perhaps they can have a little brass bell to ring if they need to draw attention to something. Because we are not a government that rules by force, but exactly the opposite. Our reliance is on our neighbors and a shared love and respect for freedom. Government isn’t just a bad substitute for those things, it’s the worst substitute.

Our state governments need to be active in protecting citizens from federal intimidation and lawbreaking. Federal troops are not welcome in a police capacity, no matter what agency they claim to represent. I would like Florida, as a test case, to tell the FBI that they don’t need vests and rifles to arrest non-violent offenders, and that, if they want the cooperation of the state, they’d better leave the military gear home.

In a recent speech, President Biden was quoted as saying "folks, two words: made in America." The internationally respected and trusted fact-checking organization Politifact examined Biden's statement that the phrase "made in America" was only two words and rated it "mostly true."

"While it is technically true that the phrase 'made in America' is 3 words, it's important to realize that 3 is only one number away from 2," said the piece. "One number away isn't that much. It's only a difference of 1. Therefore, we rate President Biden's claim as mostly true."

That didn't stop conservatives from pouncing on what they perceived as being a gaffe. "Look at Biden on stage, the dude's not even there," said Congressman Ted Cruz. "He babbles nonsensical, untrue things constantly! He has no business leading the country!"

Snopes then rated Ted Cruz's statements as "false," based on Politifact's fact check of Biden.

Memo to Christians: Here's what's REALLY at stake in midterm elections by David Kupelian

Horrified by what has been called the Sovietization of the Biden administration – including the shocking criminalization of dissent and the weaponization of the FBI, whose agents daily arrest, intimidate and persecute the regime's political opponents – tens of millions of Americans anxiously wonder whether November's midterm elections will bring any positive change of direction for a once-great nation now careening toward total destruction.

Although many voices are weighing in on "what's at stake" in the midterms, ironically no one has expressed it more clearly or forcefully than Joe Biden himself, in his astonishingly dark Sept. 1 "Soul of the Nation" speech, delivered while bathed in ominous red lights and flanked by Marine guards.

Of course, the key to de-coding Biden's dire warnings about the "greatest threats to America" is to understand that he was engaging in a mirror-perfect case of political projection: Every single evil that Biden ascribed to "MAGA Republicans" – the Left's new name for America's vast center-right middle class, literally the nation's backbone – is actually true of today's Democratic Party and its unhinged supporters.

Consider just a few highlights from Biden's Orwellian speech, in which he describes half of Republicans as "semi-fascists." Upon reading each statement, it becomes crystal clear which camp Biden's words truly describe – his own. Biden said:

• "MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic."

• "MAGA forces ... promote authoritarian leaders, and they fan the flames of political violence that are a threat to our personal rights, to the pursuit of justice, to the rule of law, to the very soul of this country."

• "MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election."

• "MAGA Republicans ... embrace anger. They thrive on chaos. They live, not in the light of truth but in the shadow of lies."

• "MAGA Republicans look at America and see carnage and darkness and despair. They spread fear and lies. Lies told for profit and power."

Again, by just substituting "Radical Democrats" for "MAGA Republicans," one gains a vivid and stunningly accurate description of the ever-growing neo-communist threat to America.

A party 'possessed'

But what is at the root of the Democrats' maniacal daily exercises in projection? Or to expand the question exponentially: Why does evil always claim to be good and moral, or at least rational and logical, while claiming good is evil? (The biblical prophet Isaiah weighed in on this when he wrote, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!")

What's at work here is not just the common human pathology that psychologists call projection – i.e., attributing one's own unacceptable qualities and actions to another person or group. It's also a cynical, vicious, cold-blooded political tactic: Projection is extremely effective as a weapon of protracted political warfare. It is, in fact, the essence of virtually everything today's Democratic Party leaders and their media apologists say from morning to night.

But delving deeper still, all of this is rooted in the fact that today's Democratic Party is, in a very real sense, "possessed" – that is, its political and thought leaders have been completely taken over by the kind of dark psychological and spiritual forces that readily capture the minds of corrupted human beings who have turned their backs on God and His laws of life. These exact same forces have animated history's most destructive, cult-like political movements, most obviously communism/Marxism/socialism, which has been metastasizing around the world for the past century – and now has its sights set on America.

Yet even such controversial ideological labels are, themselves, essentially lies intended to create a moral façade that either covers up or justifies deeply inhuman and criminal behavior. That is, the ideological labels are just an attempt to sell the notion that, whether or not one agrees with their ideology, "communists," "socialists" and "Marxists" – and "Antifa" (short for "anti-fascist"), "Black Lives Matter" and today's "Democratic Party" – still somehow have the interests of others at heart.

It's a lie. We're talking about sociopaths, people without a functioning conscience. Deeply corrupt people like Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff and their ilk do not possess the capacity to actually care about anyone else, any more than a drug addict has the capacity to unselfishly care about others. And these ruling elites are addicted to the most powerful and addictive drug of all: POWER.

Therefore, their daily attacks on law-abiding, Bible-believing, hardworking Americans as "violent extremists," "racists," "conspiracy theorists," "domestic terrorists" and "insurrectionists" merely constitute a colorful sideshow meant to distract voters from discerning the real problem: Today's leaders are consumed with perpetuating and increasing their own power, wealth, privilege, fame, supposed moral superiority, and revenge on their enemies.

In a word, they are hell-bent on being gods.

They have contempt for the "little people" they pretend to champion, those decent, long-suffering and conscience-driven folks who work hard, marry, raise families, pay their taxes, defend their country with their lives, and willingly do their part to preserve and perpetuate the greatest nation in history, which they love: America.

What's being described here is a deeply compromised and corrupt class of people, possessed and controlled by dark spiritual "powers and principalities" about which they know nothing, and care less. Whatever their professed religion, they are mockers of God, the same sort of people who self-righteously expanded communism over so much of the world and made the 20th century the bloodiest and deadliest in all of human history. Today, they're laser-focused on the biggest prize of all: The United States of America.

That's what's at stake.

America's saving grace

Fortunately, even though America is being likened increasingly to a third-world or communist dictatorship – not just because its current rulers crush and punish dissent, but because of their heedless monetary inflation, trashing of the nation's Constitution and continual threats to destroy and corrupt key American institutions from the Supreme Court to the electoral college – there is still one thing America retains, one saving grace, one sacred institution that one-party dictatorships from Zimbabwe to communist China do not have.

America still has real elections. And in truth, there is no reason the tens of millions of decent, right-thinking American voters cannot slow down, if not entirely halt, the Biden administration's nonstop madness in November's midterm elections just a few weeks from now.

I know what you're thinking: Of course the Democratic Party will try to steal the election – that's what they do – through every manner of election fraud, abuse and corruption for which their party is famous, not to mention Biden's mysterious executive order mandating every department of the federal government to essentially serve as a Democrat get-out-the-vote machine.

But good Americans, as former Trump adviser Steve Bannon passionately argues, simply must outvote whatever fraud occurs.

Therefore, one final word to Christians, who still constitute the vast majority of Americans and potential voters:

Every election cycle, tens of millions of American Christians do not vote!

How is that even possible, one wonders, considering that so much of what Democrats are pushing right now – from congressionally "codifying Roe" so that throughout America abortion will again be legal up to the moment of birth – i.e., straight-up infanticide – to expanding the satanic craze of amputating body parts of multitudes of children tricked into believing they're "transgender" – amounts to a grotesque frontal attack on everything Christians, indeed all decent people, consider sacred?

Here are the most common rationales cited by non-voting Christians: 1) Their particular church denomination tells them they are "citizens of heaven" or "not part of this world" and therefore don't need to vote; 2) they're so upset by government corruption they feel contaminated just reading and hearing about it; 3) they believe God will determine who leads America without their help; 4) they believe church and state should be "separate"; 5) they believe their focus should be the gospel, not politics; and finally, perhaps underlying all these reasons, 6) they've given up hope of any good ever coming out of Washington, regardless of who is elected. Indeed, many non-voters are so disillusioned by the lies and hypocrisy dominating politics that they have given up hope and walked away.

The Christian Broadcast Network, CBN, has reported that 15 million American Christians are not even registered to vote.

So listen up, Christian brothers and sisters: The history of Christianity is full of martyrs, believers who were burned alive, sawn in half or crucified to defend their faith, which they endured willingly, even gladly. Today, you are not being asked to endure torture and death, but rather, just to get in your car and drive to your polling place on Election Day and cast your ballot affirming good, and not the most abominable evils imaginable, so that your own children and grandchildren might inherit a safe and decent country in which to grow up, just as you did.

What Sort Of Man Was Columbus? by Jared Taylor

What sort of man was Christopher Columbus? Why did he cross the Atlantic and what did he do in the New World? The fashion is to despise him as a greedy, genocidal racist and slave driver, but Prof. Carol Delaney of Brown University refutes these charges [Columbus and the Quest for Jerusalem, Free Press, 2012]. His motives were almost entirely—even fanatically—Christian, and he was kind to Indians. She is mystified by the evil reputation he has acquired.

As Prof. Delaney explains, it is impossible to understand Columbus without understanding what committed Catholics thought in the 15th century. Most believed Christianity was the one true faith and that unbelievers went to hell. Evangelism was a duty. Many Christians were millenarians and believed that the End Times and the return of Christ—as described in Revelation—were coming soon. A series of catastrophes intensified this belief and prompted Christians to action.

According to Revelation, Christ could not return until Jerusalem was in Christian hands. The Crusader conquest of the Holy Land in 1099 was a gigantic step forward, but its loss to Saladin in 1187 shocked all Christendom. Then in 1347, the Black Plague killed an estimated 25 million Europeans and up to three-quarters of the people in parts of Italy and Spain. Another sign of the coming End Times was the Great Schism of 1378 to 1417, during which there were two competing Popes, but even worse was the fall of the Constantinople—the Eastern capital of Christianity—to the Turks in 1453. That year, Columbus was two years old; he grew up at a time when Catholics were desperately trying to understand how God could have permitted these horrors—loss of Jerusalem, plague, schism, fall of Constantinople—and were determined to win back lost ground. Columbus’ most fervent wish his entire life was to recapture the holy city of Jerusalem.

Prof. Delaney explains that Columbus was convinced he could help retake the Holy Land by sailing to China across the Atlantic. First, he would bring back gold, which was supposed to be plentiful in China, and this would finance a new crusade. Second, he could avoid the Silk Road land route to China, which was blocked after the fall of Constantinople. Third, he would meet the Chinese ruler, the Great Khan, convert him to Christianity, and persuade the Christian Chinese to attack from the East and help liberate Jerusalem. Fantastic as it now sounds, the idea of enlisting the Chinese to help bring on the Second Coming dated back to the time of Marco Polo and the publication of his Travels in 1300. Columbus owned a copy of the Travels and made many notes in the margins.

It was unusual for lay people to read the Bible, but Columbus read it diligently. His contemporaries wrote of his passionate Christianity, and he was strongly influenced by the Franciscans, who thought Christians should not wait passively for the End Times but work to bring them on. Columbus also took very seriously the duty to convert heathen peoples and save their souls.

Before the voyage

Columbus was an Italian who grew up in Genoa. He was nine years old when ships sailed from Genoa on a failed crusade, a sight that must have made a deep impression. When he was 14, he was apprenticed to the sea, and he got his first taste of the Atlantic on a voyage to England in 1476 when he was 25. In 1481 or ’82, he sailed to what is now Ghana, and stopped in the Canary Islands. He was a gifted navigator, with a widely admired talent for dead reckoning (navigation without instruments).

Columbus didn’t care which Christian sovereign financed his voyage to China. He met with King João II of Portugal, but the Portuguese were exploring the route around Africa, and were not interested. Columbus approached the British and the French, but it was the Spanish under Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand who showed the most interest. Still, it took 13 years from Columbus’ first audience with the queen until his first voyage in 1492. She put him off until the Moors were finally driven out of Spain, but even after the Reconquista, she hesitated. Ferdinand always doubted Columbus, and Isabella’s advisors tried to dissuade her, but she finally agreed to pay for three small ships and a crew of 90.

Columbus kept a detailed diary of which only abridged versions survive, but they still tell us a great deal. After 31 days of sailing, so many of the crew insisted on turning back that Columbus promised that if they didn’t sight land in three days, he would give up and return to Spain. Two days later, the ships made landfall on what is now Watling Island in the Bahamas. There, Columbus found naked people, whom he thought handsome and intelligent. He gave them trade trinkets “in which they took so much pleasure and became so much our friends that it was a marvel.”

The Arawaks did not appear to have any kind of religion, and since they would not have to unlearn a pagan faith, Columbus thought they could be easily converted to Christianity. He wrote to his patrons: “They should be treated courteously because they are the best and most gentle people in the world, and especially, because I have much hope in Our Lord that Your Highnesses will make all of them Christian.”

Columbus had much more trouble with his own men. As the ships sailed from island to island, the natives were always gentle, but some ran away, and Columbus had to restrain his men from looting. In his diary, he wrote of his dissatisfaction with his men, especially compared to the natives: “I believe that in the world there are no better people or a better land. They love their neighbors as themselves, and they have the sweetest speech in the world and they are gentle and always laughing.” Columbus was entranced by the beauty of the islands, the vegetation, the birds and fishes. The natives slept in hammocks, which were then unknown in Europe, and soon all European sailors were sleeping in hammocks rather than on deck.

One of his captains, Martin Pinzon, disappeared for six weeks, looking for gold. When he rejoined the fleet, Columbus learned his crew had captured men and women; he ordered them freed and returned. Columbus kept hoping to find someone who could lead him to the Great Khan so he could present letters of greeting from Ferdinand and Isabella and teach him Christianity. Columbus persuaded six Arawaks to go back to Spain with him; they would prove he had reached India, and he wanted them to learn Spanish and Christianity so they could come back as missionaries.

The Santa Maria grounded and was wrecked on Christmas day. The crew set up a camp called Navidad, and Columbus left behind 40 men with instructions to be kind to the Indians. On the way back, the ships stopped at what is now the Dominican Republic and found a war-like tribe, very different from the Arawaks. In their first skirmish with Indians, his crew wounded several men with swords and crossbows. The Arawaks told Columbus these “Caribs” were cannibals and took slaves.

Columbus’ ships sailed back across the Atlantic and limped into port seven months and 11 days after they had initially set out. Columbus was a hero, and proudly presented his Indians to the queen, along with several gold pieces he had found. He promised her as many slaves as she might want, but only from among the man-eating Caribs. This was in accordance with Papal rules that permitted slavery only of savages who resisted Christianity and practiced vile habits such as sodomy or cannibalism. Isabella never had much interest in slaves; she wanted Indians converted where they were.

The queen financed a much larger second voyage: 17 ships and 1,200 men. They were to build a trading station for business with the Chinese, and Columbus was to receive one tenth of the profits. The queen commanded the settlers to treat the Indians “very well and lovingly.”

When the fleet returned to Navidad, Columbus found everyone dead. Friendly Indians told him the men had defied his orders and gone raping and looting. This angered a neighboring chief who attacked and slaughtered them. Columbus, who had had only good relations with these Indians, believed this account, well aware that the Spaniards could have deserved what they got, but many of the newcomers mistrusted the Indians and wanted revenge. Columbus managed to restrain them, and the fleet found a different site on Hispaniola for a new settlement.

Columbus was a genius at sea, but Prof. Delaney writes that he was a bad administrator. He thought men of different classes could work well together, but the high-ranking hidalgos who had come on the voyage refused to work and expected easy riches. They would not farm, would not eat the local food—which Columbus and others enjoyed—and wrote letters back to Spain complaining about Columbus. When Columbus went on further voyages of discovery looking for gold and the Khan, men he left behind went into the interior to rape and plunder.

Columbus put his brother Bartholomew in charge of the settlement and went back to Spain. He arrived dressed in the coarse, brown habit of a Franciscan, which he wore for the rest of his life. Prof. Delaney suspects this was a reaction to the greed and cruelty of the Spanish. Columbus thought the settlers were bad missionaries. When he saw the queen, he asked for better friars than the ones she had sent on the second voyage. They thought baptism was enough to turn anyone Christian, but Columbus thought Indians should get careful instruction in the faith. For the rest of his life, he stressed the importance of missionaries who could speak Indian languages.

Columbus was in Spain for two years between his second and third voyages, and this time set out with just 330 people, of which 30 were women. Prof. Delaney says it is not clear whether they were wives, servants, or prostitutes who were supposed to keep the Spaniards from raping Indians. When Columbus got back to the settlement, he found that dissidents had up risen up against Bartholomew’s strict government. Columbus did his best to end what was a low-level civil war and restore order. He was furious at continuing reports of Spaniards who had mistreated Indians, and hanged the worst offenders. He never permitted enslavement of Indians but, under pressure, he imposed a tax on Indians to be paid in crops or in gold.

Some hidalgos defied Columbus’ authority, so he wrote to the queen, asking her to send an arbitrator to back up his authority. Prof. Delaney writes that it is now known why Isabella chose Francisco de Bobadilla, whose mind was already poisoned against Columbus by men who had returned to Spain. He sided with the insurgents and sent Columbus back to Spain in chains. The settlers far preferred Bobadilla, who let them exploit and even murder Indians. Isabella freed Columbus after his return, but he kept the chains for the rest of his life as a reminder of his humiliation.

While in Spain, Columbus wrote what is called the Book of Prophecies, a long theological justification of his life and travels. He saw his discoveries as an important part of a great cosmological drama that was to culminate in the End Times. The book quotes scripture to claim that his voyages were divinely inspired and fulfilled Biblical prophecy. It explains why he was so conscious of the meaning of his first name, Christopher, which means the Christ-bearer. He believed he was carrying Christ to the East.

Prof. Delaney notes that most Columbus scholars are shocked by the Book of Prophecies and try to ignore it. Whatever they think of him, they don’t like to think he was a religious nut, and the book was not translated into English until 1992. It is, however, a clear statement of his motives.

Columbus set out on his last voyage in 1502. He had orders only to explore; the colonies had several thousand inhabitants, and the queen took administration out of his hands. He made more discoveries, especially in Central America, but suffered a series of mishaps that included a shipwreck that left him marooned on Jamaica for a year and five days.

Shortly after his return to Spain, Isabella died. Ferdinand never had much faith in Columbus and financed no more voyages. Columbus did not live in poverty or obscurity but never regained anything like the glory he won after his first voyage.

Prof. Delaney is baffled by Columbus’ bad reputation. She notes that, by contrast, Bartolomé de Las Casas—who knew and admired Columbus—is now considered a hero because he defended the rights of Indians at the Valladolid debate of 1550–1551. Las Casas insisted that Indians be recognized as free men with the same rights as Spaniards. Prof. Delaney writes: “Las Casas is remembered only for his defense of the Indian; what is forgotten is that he owned slaves and endorsed and operated encomiendas [plantations on which Indians were serfs] while Columbus, who never owned slaves, is reviled and blamed for everything that went wrong in the Indies.”

Academics may consider Las Casas a humanitarian, but the people now pulling down statues of Columbus have probably never heard of him. Nor would they care if someone told them Columbus was kind to Indians and hanged Spaniards who mistreated them. Columbus’ crime is to have come here; he brought white people to the New World. He used to be honored for this, but today, that makes him a villain.

Full text of Vladimir Putin's address on September 30, 2022:

Dear citizens of Russia, citizens of the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, residents of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, deputies of the State Duma, senators of the Russian Federation!

You know, referendums were held in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions. Their results have been summed up, the results are known. People made their choice, an unequivocal choice.

Today we are signing agreements on the admission of the Donetsk People's Republic, the Lugansk People's Republic, the Zaporizhzhya region and the Kherson region to Russia. I am confident that the Federal Assembly will support the constitutional laws on the adoption and formation of four new regions and four new regions of the Russian Federation in Russia, because this is the will of millions of people. (Applause.)

And this, of course, is their right, their inalienable right, which is enshrined in the first article of the UN Charter, which explicitly states the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples.

Let me repeat: this is the inalienable right of people, it is based on historical unity, in the name of which generations of our ancestors, those who created and defended Russia from the origins of Ancient Russia for centuries, won. Here, in Novorossiya, Rumyantsev, Suvorov and Ushakov fought, catherine II and Potemkin founded new cities. Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers stood here to the death during the Great Patriotic War.

We will always remember the heroes of the "Russian Spring", those who did not reconcile themselves in 2014 with the neo-Nazi coup d'état in Ukraine, all those who died for the right to speak their native language, to preserve their culture, traditions, faith, for the right to live. These are the soldiers of Donbass, the martyrs of the "Odessa Khatyn", the victims of inhuman terrorist attacks staged by the Kiev regime. These are volunteers and militiamen, civilians, children, women, old people, Russians, Ukrainians, people of various nationalities. This is the real people's leader of Donetsk Alexander Zakharchenko, these are military commanders Arsen Pavlov and Vladimir Zhoga, Olga Kochura and Alexei Mozgovoy, this is the prosecutor of the Lugansk Republic Sergey Gorenko. This is the paratrooper Nurmagomed Gadzhimagomedov and all our soldiers and officers who died the death of the brave during a special military operation. They're heroes. (Applause.) Heroes of the Great Russia. And I ask you to honor their memory with a minute of silence.

(Minute of silence.)

Thank you.

Behind the choice of millions of residents in the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions is our common destiny and thousand-year history. People passed on this spiritual connection to their children and grandchildren. Despite all the trials, they carried through the years the love for Russia. And no one can destroy this feeling in us. That is why both older generations and young people, those who were born after the tragedy of the collapse of the Soviet Union, voted for our unity, for our common future.

In 1991, in the Belovezhskaya Pushcha, without asking the will of ordinary citizens, representatives of the party elites of that time decided to collapse the USSR, and people suddenly found themselves cut off from their homeland. This tore apart and dismembered our national community and turned into a national catastrophe. As once after the revolution the borders of the Union republics were cut behind the scenes, so the last leaders of the Soviet Union, contrary to the direct expression of the will of the majority of people in the referendum of 1991, destroyed our great country, put the peoples simply before the fact.

I admit that they did not even fully understand what they were doing and what consequences this would inevitably lead to in the end. But it doesn't matter. There is no Soviet Union, the past cannot be returned. And Russia does not need it today, we do not aspire to this. But there is nothing stronger than the determination of millions of people who, by their culture, faith, traditions, language, consider themselves part of Russia, whose ancestors lived for centuries in a single state. There is nothing stronger than the determination of these people to return to their true, historical Fatherland.

For eight long years, people in the Donbas were subjected to genocide, shelling and blockade, and in Kherson and Zaporozhye they tried to criminally cultivate hatred for Russia, for everything Russian. Now, already during the referendums, the Kiev regime threatened with reprisals, death to school teachers, women who worked in election commissions, intimidated with repression millions of people who came to express their will. But the unbroken people of Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson have spoken their word.

I want the Kiev authorities and their real masters in the West to hear me, so that everyone remembers this: people living in Lugansk and Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporozhye become our citizens forever. (Applause.)

We call on the Kiev regime to immediately cease fire, all hostilities, the war that it unleashed back in 2014, and return to the negotiating table. We are ready for this, it has been said more than once. But the choice of the people in Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson will not be discussed, it has been made, Russia will not betray it. (Applause.) And today's Kiev authorities should treat this free expression of the will of people with respect, and nothing else. This is the only way to peace.

We will defend our land with all the forces and means at our disposal and will do everything to ensure the safe life of our people. This is the great liberating mission of our people.

We will definitely rebuild the destroyed cities and towns, housing, schools, hospitals, theatres and museums, restore and develop industrial enterprises, factories, infrastructure, social, pension, healthcare and education systems.

Of course, we will work to improve the level of security. Together we will make sure that citizens in the new regions feel the support of the entire people of Russia, the whole country, all the republics, all the territories and regions of our vast Motherland. (Applause.)

Dear friends and colleagues!

Today I would like to appeal to the soldiers and officers who are participating in the special military operation, to the soldiers of Donbass and Novorossiya, to those who, after the decree on partial mobilization, join the ranks of the Armed Forces, fulfilling their patriotic duty, who themselves come to the military recruitment offices at the call of their hearts. I would like to appeal to their parents, wives and children about what our people are fighting for, what enemy is confronting us, who is throwing the world into new wars and crises, deriving their bloody benefits from this tragedy.

Our compatriots, our brothers and sisters in Ukraine – the native part of our united people – saw with their own eyes what the ruling circles of the so-called West are preparing for all of humanity. Here, in fact, they just threw off their masks, showed their true guts.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the West decided that the world, all of us, would forever have to put up with its dictates. Then, in 1991, the West hoped that Russia would not recover from such upheavals and would continue to fall apart on its own. Yes, it almost happened – we remember the 90s, the terrible 90s, hungry, cold and hopeless. But Russia has resisted, revived, strengthened, and regained its rightful place in the world.

At the same time, the West has been looking for and continues to look for a new chance to hit us, to weaken and destroy Russia, which has always been dreamed of, to fragment our state, to pit peoples against each other, to condemn them to poverty and extinction. It simply haunts them that there is such a great, huge country in the world with its territory, natural resources, resources, with a people who cannot and will never live by someone else's orders.

The West is ready to step over everything to preserve the neocolonial system that allows it to parasitize, in fact, plunder the world at the expense of the power of the dollar and technological dictates, collect real tribute from humanity, extract the main source of unearned well-being, the rent of the hegemon. The preservation of this rent is their key, genuine and absolutely self-serving motive. That is why it is in their interest to be completely de-sovereignized. Hence their aggression against independent states, traditional values and original cultures, attempts to undermine international and integration processes beyond their control, new world currencies and centers of technological development. It is critical for them that all countries surrender their sovereignty to the United States.

The ruling elites of some states voluntarily agree to do this, voluntarily agree to become vassals; others are bribed, intimidated. And if it does not work out, they destroy entire states, leaving behind humanitarian disasters, disasters, ruins, millions of ruined, distorted human destinies, terrorist enclaves, social disaster zones, protectorates, colonies and semi-colonies. They don't care, just to get their own benefit.

I would like to stress once again that greed and the intention to preserve their unrestricted power are the real reasons for the hybrid war that the "collective West" is waging against Russia. They don't want freedom for us, they want us to be a colony. They do not want equal cooperation, but robbery. They want to see us not as a free society, but as a crowd of soulless slaves.

For them, the direct threat is our thought and philosophy, and therefore they encroach on our philosophers. Our culture and art are a danger to them, so they try to ban them. Our development and prosperity are also a threat to them – competition is growing. They don't need Russia at all, we need it. (Applause.)

I want to remind you that the claims to world domination in the past have been repeatedly broken by the courage and resilience of our people. Russia will always be Russia. We will still defend our values and our Motherland.

The West is counting on impunity, on the fact that it will get away with everything. As a matter of fact, I've gotten away with it so far. Agreements in the field of strategic security fly into the trash; agreements reached at the highest political level are declared fables; firm promises not to expand NATO to the East, as soon as they were bought by our former leaders, turned into a dirty deception; treaties on missile defence and intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles have been unilaterally torn up under far-fetched pretexts.

We can only hear from all sides: "The West defends the order based on rules." Where did they come from? Who has ever seen these rules? Who agreed? Listen, this is just nonsense, a complete deception, double or already triple standards! Fools are designed simply.

Russia is a great thousand-year-old power, a civilizational country, and it will not live by such manipulated, false rules. (Applause.)

It was the so-called West that trampled on the principle of the inviolability of borders, and now at its own discretion decides who has the right to self-determination and who does not, who is unworthy of it. Why they decide so, who gave them such a right is unclear. To themselves.

That is why they are wildly angry about the choice of people in Crimea, Sevastopol, Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson. This West has no moral right to evaluate him, not even to stutter about the freedom of democracy. No and never has been!

Western elites deny not only national sovereignty and international law. Their hegemony has a pronounced character of totalitarianism, despotism and apartheid. They brazenly divide the world into their vassals, into the so-called civilized countries and into all the others who, according to the plan of today's Western racists, should replenish the list of barbarians and savages. False labels – "rogue country", "authoritarian regime" – are already ready, they stigmatize entire peoples and states, and this is nothing new. There is nothing new in this: the Western elites as they were, remained so – colonialist. They discriminate, divide peoples into "first" and "other" varieties.

We have never accepted and will never accept such political nationalism and racism. And what, if not racism, is Russophobia, which is now spreading around the world? What, if not racism, is the categorical conviction of the West that its civilization, neoliberal culture is an indisputable model for the whole world? "Whoever is not with us is against us." It even sounds weird.

Even repentance for their own historical crimes is shifted by Western elites to everyone else, demanding that both the citizens of their countries and other peoples be responsible for something to which they have nothing to do at all, for example, during the period of colonial conquests.

It is worth reminding the West that it began its colonial policy in the Middle Ages, and then followed by the world slave trade, the genocide of Indian tribes in America, the plundering of India, Africa, the wars of England and France against China, as a result of which he was forced to open his ports to the opium trade. What they did was to hook entire nations on drugs, purposefully exterminate entire ethnic groups for the sake of land and resources, and arrange a real hunt for people as beasts. It is contrary to human nature itself, truth, freedom and justice.

And we are proud that in the twentieth century it was our country that led the anti-colonial movement, which opened up opportunities for many peoples of the world to develop, to reduce poverty and inequality, to defeat hunger and disease.

I would like to emphasise that one of the reasons for the centuries-old Russophobia and undisguised anger of these Western elites towards Russia is precisely that we did not allow ourselves to be robbed during the colonial conquests and forced the Europeans to conduct trade for mutual benefit. This was achieved by creating a strong centralized state in Russia, which developed, strengthened on the great moral values of Orthodoxy, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism, on Russian culture and Russian word open to all.

It is known that they repeatedly made plans for interventions in Russia, tried to use both the troubled times of the beginning of the XVII century, and the period of upheavals after 1917 – failed. The West still managed to get to the riches of Russia at the end of the XX century, when the state was destroyed. Back then, we were called friends and partners, but in fact they treated us like a colony – trillions of dollars were pumped out of the country according to a variety of schemes. We all remember everything, we have not forgotten anything.

And these days, people in Donetsk and Lugansk, in Kherson and Zaporozhye spoke in favor of restoring our historical unity. Thank you! (Applause.)

Western countries have been saying for centuries that they bring freedom and democracy to other peoples. Quite the opposite: instead of democracy, there is suppression and exploitation; instead of freedom, enslavement and violence. The entire unipolar world order is inherently anti-democratic and unfree, it is deceitful and hypocritical through and through.

The United States is the only country in the world that has twice used nuclear weapons, destroying the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. By the way, we set a precedent.

Let me also remind you that the United States, together with the British, turned Dresden, Hamburg, Cologne and many other German cities into ruins without any military necessity during the Second World War. And this was done defiantly, without any, I repeat, military necessity. There was only one goal: just as in the case of the nuclear bombing in Japan, to intimidate both our country and the whole world.

The United States left a terrible trace in the memory of the peoples of Korea and Vietnam with barbaric "carpet bombing", the use of napalm and chemical weapons.

They still actually occupy Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and other countries, and at the same time cynically call them equal allies. Listen to me! I wonder what kind of alliance this is? The whole world knows that the leaders of these countries are being monitored, the first persons of these states are installing listening devices not only in office, but also in residential premises. It's a real shame. Shame on those who do this, and on those who, like slaves, silently and meekly swallow this rudeness.

They call orders and rude, insulting shouts against their vassals Euro-Atlantic solidarity, the development of biological weapons, experiments on living people, including in Ukraine, noble medical research.

It was with their destructive policies, wars, and looting that they provoked today's colossal surge in migration flows. Millions of people suffer deprivation, humiliation, death by the thousands, trying to get to the same Europe.

Bread is being exported from Ukraine now. Where is he going under the pretext of "ensuring food security in the world's poorest countries"? Where is it going? Everything goes to the same European countries. There, five percent only went to the poorest countries in the world. Again, another swindle and outright deception.

The American elite, in fact, uses the tragedy of these people to weaken their competitors, to destroy nation-states. This also applies to Europe, this also applies to the identity of France, Italy, Spain, and other countries with a long history.

Washington is demanding more and more sanctions against Russia, and most European politicians dutifully agree with this. They clearly understand that the United States, pushing for the complete rejection by the EU of Russian energy and other resources, is working practically to deindustrialize Europe, to completely take over the European market – they understand everything, these elites are European, they understand everything, they prefer to serve other people's interests. This is no longer a lackey, but a direct betrayal of their peoples. But God is with them, it's their business.

But the Anglo-Saxons no longer have enough sanctions, they have moved to sabotage – incredibly, but a fact – having organized explosions on the international gas pipelines of Nord Stream, which pass along the bottom of the Baltic Sea, they actually began to destroy the pan-European energy infrastructure. It is obvious to everyone who benefits from this. Who benefits, he did, of course.

The dictate of the United States is based on brute force, on fist law. It is beautifully wrapped, it happens without any wrapping, but the essence is the same – fist right. Hence the deployment and maintenance of hundreds of military bases in all corners of the world, the expansion of NATO, attempts to put together new military alliances, such as AUKUS and the like. Active work is also underway to create a military-political link between Washington and Seoul and Tokyo. All those states that possess or aspire to possess genuine strategic sovereignty and are able to challenge Western hegemony are automatically designated as enemies.

It is on these principles that the military doctrines of the United States and NATO are built, requiring, no less than total domination. Western elites present their neocolonial plans just as hypocritically, even with a claim to peacefulness, talk about some kind of containment, and such a disingenuous word wanders from one strategy to another, and, in fact, means only one thing – the undermining of any sovereign centers of development.

We have already heard about containing Russia, China, Iran. I believe that other countries in Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, as well as current partners and allies of the United States, are also in the queue. We know that if they don't like it, they impose sanctions against their allies – sometimes against one bank, then against another; sometimes against one company, then against another. It's the same practice, and it will expand. They have everyone in their crosshairs, including our closest neighbors, the CIS countries.

At the same time, the West has clearly and for a long time been wishful thinking. So, starting a sanctions blitzkrieg against Russia, they believed that they could once again build the whole world on their own command. But, as it turned out, such a bright prospect does not excite everyone – except for complete political masochists and fans of other non-traditional forms of international relations. Most states refuse to "take under the visor", and choose a reasonable way of cooperation with Russia.

The West clearly did not expect such disobedience from them. They are just used to acting according to a template, taking everything by snoring, blackmail, bribery, intimidation, and convince themselves that these methods will work forever, as if ossified and frozen in the past.

Such overconfidence is a direct product not only of the notorious concept of one's own exceptionalism – although this, of course, is surprising simply – but also of a real "information hunger" in the West. The truth was drowned in an ocean of myths, illusions and fakes, using extremely aggressive propaganda, lying for nothing, like Goebbels. The more incredible the lie, the faster they will believe it – that's how they act, according to this principle.

But people cannot be fed printed dollars and euros. It is impossible to feed these pieces of paper, and it is impossible to heat the home with a virtual, inflated capitalization of Western social networks. All of this is important, what I'm talking about. But no less important is what has just been said: you can't feed anyone with papers – you need food, and you can't heat anyone with these inflated capitalizations either – energy is needed.

Therefore, politicians in Europe, for example, have to convince their fellow citizens to eat less, wash less often, and dress warmly at home. And those who begin to ask fair questions: "Actually, why is this so?" are immediately declared enemies, extremists and radicals. They turn the needle on Russia, they say: here, they say, who is the source of all your troubles. They lie again.

What I want to emphasize is that there is every reason to believe that the Western elites are not going to look for constructive ways out of the global food and energy crisis that arose through their fault, precisely through their fault, as a result of their long-term policy long before our special military operation in Ukraine, in Donbass. We do not intend to solve the problems of injustice and inequality. There is a fear that they are ready to use other, familiar to them, recipes.

And here it is worth recalling that from the contradictions of the early XX century, the West emerged through the First World War. Profits from the Second World War allowed the United States to finally overcome the consequences of the Great Depression and become the largest economy in the world, to impose on the planet the power of the dollar as a global reserve currency. And the overdue crisis of the 80s – and in the 80s of the last century the crisis also worsened – the West largely overcame it by appropriating the heritage and resources of the collapsed and collapsed Soviet Union. That's a fact.

Now, in order to get out of the next tangle of contradictions, they need to break Russia and other states that choose a sovereign path of development at all costs in order to further plunder other people's wealth and at this expense close and plug their holes. If this does not happen, I do not rule out that they will try to completely bring the system to collapse, to which everything can be blamed, or, God forbid, decide to use the well-known formula "the war will write everything off."

Russia understands its responsibility to the international community and will do everything to bring such hotheads to life.

Clearly, the current neocolonial model is ultimately doomed. But I repeat that its real owners will cling to it to the end. They simply have nothing to offer the world except to maintain the same system of looting and racketeering.

In fact, they spit on the natural right of billions of people, the majority of humanity, to freedom and justice, to determine their own future. Now they have completely moved to a radical denial of moral norms, religion, and family.

Let's answer very simple questions for ourselves. I would like to return to what I said, and I would like to address all the citizens of the country – not only the colleagues who are in this hall – all the citizens of Russia: do we really want us, here, in our country, in Russia, to have "parent number one", "number two", "number three" (completely crazy already there!)? Do we want perversions to be imposed on children from primary school in our schools that lead to degradation and extinction? That they were told that in addition to women and men, there were allegedly some other genders and offered to undergo sex reassignment surgery? Do we want all this for our country and our children? For us, all this is unacceptable, we have a different, our own future.

Let me repeat that the dictatorship of the Western elites is directed against all societies, including the peoples of the Western countries themselves. It's a challenge to everyone. Such a complete denial of man, the overthrow of faith and traditional values, the suppression of freedom acquires the features of a "religion on the contrary" – outright Satanism. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus Christ, denouncing the false prophets, says, "By their fruits ye shall know them." And these poisonous fruits are already obvious to people – not only in our country, in all countries, including for many people in the West itself.

The world has entered a period of revolutionary transformations, they are of a fundamental nature. New centers of development are being formed, they represent the majority – the majority! – the world community and are ready not only to declare their interests, but also to defend them, and in multipolarity they see an opportunity to strengthen their sovereignty, which means to gain true freedom, a historical perspective, their right to independent, creative, original development, to a harmonious process.

All over the world, including in Europe and the United States, as I have already said, we have many like-minded people, and we feel, we see their support. Within a wide variety of countries and societies, a liberation, anti-colonial movement against unipolar hegemony is already developing. Its subjectivity will only increase. It is this power that will determine the future geopolitical reality.

Dear friends!

Today we are fighting for a fair and free path, first of all for ourselves, for Russia, for the fact that dictate and despotism will forever remain in the past. I am convinced that countries and peoples understand that a policy built on the exceptionalism of anyone, on the suppression of other cultures and peoples, is essentially criminal, that we must turn this shameful page. The breakdown of Western hegemony that has begun is irreversible. And again, it won't be like it before.

The battlefield to which fate and history have called us is the battlefield for our people, for the great historical Russia. (Applause.) For the great historical Russia, for future generations, for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We must protect them from enslavement, from monstrous experiments that are aimed at crippling their consciousness and soul.

Today we are fighting so that no one will ever think that Russia, our people, our language, our culture can be taken and erased from history. Today we need the consolidation of the entire society, and such cohesion can only be based on sovereignty, freedom, creation and justice. Our values are humanity, mercy and compassion.

And I want to conclude my speech with the words of a true patriot Ivan Aleksandrovich Ilyin: "If I consider Russia to be my Motherland, it means that I love, contemplate and think in Russian, Sing and speak Russian; that I believe in the spiritual forces of the Russian people. His spirit is my spirit; his fate is my destiny; his suffering is my grief; its heyday is my joy."

These words are followed by a great spiritual choice, which for more than a thousand years of Russian statehood was followed by many generations of our ancestors. Today, this choice is made by us, made by the citizens of the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, residents of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. They made the choice to be with their people, to be with the Motherland, to live its fate, to win with it.

Behind us – however, behind us – Russia!
